MIRO Concert
When: Sunday 14th August, 3pm
Where: Colinton Parish Church, Edinburgh
MIRO is a group of professionally trained and unprofessionally trained musicians from 10 global nationalities (many of them are former refugees) and a bewildering range of genres, the Manchester International Roots Orchestra has brought an exciting new voice to the world music scene since its Royal Northern College of Music début in 2013. Its repertoire deftly combines diverse musical influences from haunting Eastern European melodies, the delicate textures of Middle Eastern percussion and vocals; through to soulful Sufi chants of South Asia, joyful African gospel – embracing rap, hip-hop, classical and jazz along the way. MIRO’s music consists of a montage of different cultural influences reflecting the diversity within the orchestra. Through their unique sound the orchestra shares stories of struggles, hope, joy and social cohesion.
